Wedding ceremony

You can have a religious ceremony or a civil ceremony.

Religious ceremonies
If you are religious, you will probably want the ceremony to take place in your local place of worship.

You may want to consider the religious beliefs of close family members as well as your own. If you or your spouse come from a religious family, but are not practising yourself, you might decide to have a religious ceremony anyway, providing you don’t have any fundamental objections of course. Trying to keep everyone happy is the objective here.

Different religions have different procedures and requirements for making wedding arrangements. Some useful contacts are listed below:

Civil ceremonies
If you decide not to have a religious ceremony, your choices are wider. You are certainly not limited to the local register office. There are numerous other venues approved to hold civil wedding ceremonies, ranging from stately homes, hotels, castles and other more exotic ideas. A list of approved premises for civil wedding ceremonies can be obtained from your local town hall or from the following website: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/marriages/where-can-i-marry/finding--an--approved--venue.asp#0
